Upgrading to 3 *** High Security Locks

So what are High Security Cylinders?

The euro cylinder is probably the most vulnerable part of a door. If a burglar can manipulate or remove the euro cylinder, then they can open the door. That's why it's important to fit a euro cylinder that can resist compromise.

Euro cylinders that are designed to resist physical attack and manipulation are commonly referred to as high security cylinders.

Typical High Security Features

  • Anti-Snap - deliberate weak point that snaps during an attack that protects the rest of the lock.

  • Anti-Bump - low and high driver pins help to resists lock bumping

  • Anti-Drill - Lock drilling resisted with anti-drill pins and plug cuts

  • Anti-Pick - spool pins & other types of security pins make lock picking a lot harder

  • Anti-Plug Pull - resists plug and cylinder pull

  • Visual deterrent - visible kitemark discourages thieves

How to Identify a 3* lock

Look for the 3 *** on the front of the lock. If i doesn't have 3 *** then i probably isn't a 3* lock.

Swale Locks Recommended 3* Cylinders by APECS

The APECS AP range of locks has a BSI 3* Kitemark & is a Sold Secure Diamond Standard Euro Cylinder which offers maximum protection. It safeguards from all forced methods of attack ranging from snapping, drilling, plug-extraction, picking and bumping.

The APECS AP cylinder is specifically designed to protect from unauthorised access by burglars. The AP cylinder is engineered with a unique sacrificial point, which when tampered with externally sets an interlocking cam mechanism into action, preventing any further damage to the internal parts of the cylinder, whilst still keeping the lock operable from the inside.

In the event of snapping, the home owner can still operate the door and exit the property due to the lock's unique mechanism which is engaged when the cylinders external section is snapped off. This mechanism slides the clutch into place, preventing further external damage and manipulation of the cam, whilst keeping the lock operable from the inside.
